Why should you choose Jesus of Nazareth as the person to follow with your whole heart, mind, and body?
An excellent question, and a question that must be carefully considered. After all, many people have claimed throughout
history to be unique in their understanding of God and life. Why should we decide that Jesus is the right one?
Here are some great reasons to choose Jesus:
1. He made everything and understands how it's meant to be:
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was
God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things
were made; without
him nothing was made that has been made." John 1:1-3
"For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth,
visible and invisible... all things were created by him and for him." Colossians
1:16
"...in these last days [God] has spoken to us by his Son whom he
appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe." Hebrews
1:2
2. Only He knows God the Father, and only He can bring us back to Him:
"All things have been commited to me by my Father. No one knows
the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses
to reveal him." Matthew 11:27
"I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father
except through me. If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well." John 14:6,7
3. He's the only teacher that will ultimately be your judge:
"As the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the the Son to
have life in himself. And he has given him authority to judge because he is the Son of Man."
John 5:26,27
"When the Son of Man comes in his glory and all the angels with him,
he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. All the nations will be gathered before him and
he will separate the people one from another..." Matthew 25:31,32
"[Jesus] is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the
dead." Acts 10:42b
4. Only He loved you so much that He died on a cross to save you:
"Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down
his life for his friends." John 15:13
"He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life
for our justification." Romans 4:25
"...you were redeemed...with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without
blemish or defect." 1 Peter 1:19
Basically, Jesus is the total package. He knows what He's talking about. He has the
authority to promise great things to us and demand great things from us. He truly wants the best for us, and so we know
He won't deceive or mislead us. Best of all, He can give us the inside scoop on the most important truth there is: God
Himself.
You have a lot of teachers to choose from out there, but there's only one who has all
you need: Jesus.
